After almost 3 months of being laid-off from The Orange County Register and applying to dozens of jobs, I've landed a new gig, as a web developer for Leverage Inc., a local internet start-up based in Irvine.
I just hopped onto The Scoop for one of my regular perusals, and saw that colleague and journalism database guru Derek Willis is leaving WashingtonPost.com for a job with NYTimes.com.
I'm in the midst of rebuilding the web site for the Orange County Heritage Coordinating Council, a non-profit local history organization on which I serve. I wanted to include a calendar of HCC events, as well as all Orange County local history events... but I didn't want to have to compile and enter this all myself.
I found a really cool FREE (yes, free -- for now) web tool that's been a big help for my Ultimate Sacrifice database, it's called BombAss: csv2mysql, and it converts data in CSV format to MySQL format.
